Snippet #11: Unit Supplies

Just a small snippet showing the 6th Abarum Guards Division. Most units will need a combination of three types of supply: Food, Oil and Ammo. Oil is key to have mobile and mechanized forces. Ammo is key in running a successful offensive, since usually quite a lot more bullets are expended in attack than in defense. And food acts as a sort of a final ‘axe of death’ for lost units; it is the thing that will take many rounds before it becomes truly fatal, but it ensures units will not sit encircled for ever: they will starve and die.

Cooool. I am ready to play! I am also ready to playtest. Wink. Looks very interesting.
Best, Russ
hi. I sent an email to you :) Probably didn’t see it, that’s the reason I write here.
or just ignoring it? :)
wishing best to you,
Panno
Instead of Oil call it Fuel. On another world it might be something different than Earth’s oil deposits that are used as fuel.
Your right Chris. Most planets will have a planetary history without alien life and thus also an absence of conventional oil deposits. Synthetic fuel and scavenging will be key there.
Vic,
Do you have a window when the game will be finished and available?
Best Regards, Russ
Hi Russ,
It is hard to do that right now. I don’t like to give an ETA and then change it later on.
Expect an ETA within a few months though. ;)
Great! Thanks for sharing! I’m anxious to play.
Best, Russ
Why Die ? Wouldn’t they surrender first ?
Then you’d have to decide what to do with them yourself.
Your right Jeff, “die” is indeed a bit too strong. The design intent is at some point all cohesion breaks down and they dissapear from your order of battle. Maybe better to make it more like “melting away”. However if you would look at for example ww2 Stalingrad I think I could argue that if the Russians would not have stormed “the Kessel” death by starvation might actually have resulted for the 6th army.
Best wishes,
Vic
Agree, there is a morale mechanic at work there. Also, the expectations of the surrounded WRT their prospects for survival. Alternate side of your “6th army kessel” argument is the Russians surrendering in masse during the opening phases of the WiTE.
