Can convert easily old mods (Advanced Tactis), to the new game?

  2. vic says:

Yes ATG should be able to read all old scenarios created with AT.

Is there a demo? You can’t seriously expect someone to purchase the software based purely off screenshots?

  4. vic says:

    Hi Adam,

Actually at the moment we do.
However a few of my players pointed out that the freeware game People’s Tactics gives a good idea of basic gameplay, though its gotten really old now.

    best regards,
    Vic

  5. Adam Rinkleff says:

Well, I’m interested in the software, and I’ll look at People’s Tactics, but I’ve been burned by too many unfinished and poorly designed games to buy anything without a compelling demo.

  6. Adam Rinkleff says:

At the very least can you give me some detail on how this game improves upon Total Operational Art of War? I thought that program had so much potential, and yet it failed in some critical ways which the designers never addressed. -arinkleff@gmail.com

One thing I see missing in People’s Army is an option to change the intensity of an attack. I thought that was one of the realistic aspects of TOAW, the ability to differentiate between limited, normal, and “at all costs” attacks and defenses. If its not in ATG, surely it could be easily added with a patch?

    @Adam,

Concerning TOAW you might find this forum thread interesting:

This may not be appropriate place for question. Two years ago or so I bought ATG, enjoyed it greatly, then was seperated from my computer. When I tried using my original Disc to reinstall the game, it won’t accept the serial numbers. Any Help greatly appreciated. Allan Faidley

I just noticed in the Matrix Forum that it is possible to edit saved games if you set the scenario to this. That means that ATG can be used as the campaign game for a strategic/tactical game (the tactical part could be done with miniatures or another pc game)

I think you could sell more games if miniature players were aware of this and you promoted it. There are also people who might like to use ATG as the strat half of a game where they are using another pc game for the tactical battles.

Just to be clear, what I do is I play a strategic game until a battle is generated, then I save the game. I play the battle with miniatures, then go back into the strat game and edit it to conform to the results of the tactical game.

I currently can use Triple-A for this, but I think your map editor is better, so I now will
start making my own maps for ATG.

Anyone interested in this kind of thing is welcome to email me at gcbisset@gmail

Thanks for all your work and the open design of ATG!

    George

    PS

Even better would be to have a feature that asks players if theyd like to input their battle results or use the normal ATG one, but the ability to edit saved games is sufficient.

  12. vic says:

    Hi gcbisset,

Take note that the loading a saved game feature is a debug feature and is not properly configured to allow changing a running game and continueing play.

Where are the links to the latests patch? I have version 2.11 but I read online there is a 2.14.

  14. vic says:

    Hi Roger,

Actually we are already at v2.21 !
Check out the following post for patch links: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4111938

I am seeking a link to NATO icons for v2.21 from Steam. The game is really a great challenge and learning how to think against a progressive AI is a sweet headache.

    Hello

Where are the scenarios located for ATG for download?

  17. ab067_1 says:

Also, where can I find the mods?

  18. ab067_1 says:

Ok, found it under scenario bank.

I was looking for a download section.

I just found this game, and am really enjoying it so far, and can see myself putting lots of time into it. I was wondering if there will be a sequel to the game, as some things feel really outdated or missing.

  20. vic says:

    Hi Adam,

I am currently working on Shadow Empire, which is not strictly a sequal to ATG, but would feel quite familiar gameplay wise.

    Best wishes,
    Vic

  21. Adam says:

The design docs you’ve shown look great, so long as it has a procedural skirmish mode I’m all in.

  22. Woodruff says:

I have looked through the manual, as well as the Advanced Tactics Gold Strategy Guide, and cannot seem to find anywhere the specific rules for supply, as in “how far can a HQ be from a unit in order to transfer 100% of the supply it needs?”.

I know I’ve seen this somewhere, but it is eluding me. All I can remember is that the distance varies depending on if there are roads between the HQ and the unit and so forth. Can anyone help with that?

    Thanks!

  23. vic says:

    Hi Woodruff,

Click a HQ and then use the “supply layer” button to see how far its supplies goes. Green means 100% will arrive. You can then right click on a target hex to see the supply path.

    Best wishes,
    Vic

I played and play ATG a lot. Recently I bought all 3 DC games. What can I say – deeply disappointed. So much less then ATG(especially the random map generator but as well proper supply management and production, there is just nothing…).

Even the Community Project offers nothing for an ATG player. Just other szenarios…

Is this new game that you are working on anything close to the idea of Advanced Tactics? Just made better? More 2000ish? It seems that could be the case from what I could read here.

  25. vic says:

    Hi Kris,

Sorry you did not like the DC titles. I think you are going to like Shadow Empire more since it will come with a lot of procedural content, like for example a random planet generator. It is going to have the same sandbox feel like ATG, although the mechanics and the level of universe detail will resemble quite a bit more to DC, albeit of course not being historical at all.

    Best wishes,
    Vic

  26. Ruy Horta says:

Don’t agree, all three DC titles are gems in their own right.
They are not meant to be sandbox strategy, they are meant to be wargames.

You can only be disappointed if you buy DC thinking they are sandbox games.

I enjoy the occasional sandbox, but in the end I prefer staying closer to historical paths that wargames offer.

Keep up the good work – please add more DC games, would like to see another western campaign – and bring back air units.

  27. vonBock55 says:

I own the 3 DC titles and ATG. Favourite is ATG, just wish I could get the turns to run faster (ie i need a better computer). that’s why I have logged 2113 hrs…..turns last forever. Runner up is DC CB, unless i can figure out how to get DC B to run properly.

    Howdy folks,
Wanted to say how much I’m still enjoying this game, had it for years and I still come back to it every so often.
Was excited to find out about the Phoenix update & I was not disappointed!! very nicely done, updates even after all these years… outstanding!
Pity the forums and players groups are pretty much dead but I live in hope I may get to have a PBEM game one day.
Having fun tweaking the subformation types!
    Cheers Vic, keep em coming!
