Yes, although release is still far off, I am going to start sharing some snippets of my work on Shadow Empire. As you might have already picked up on the forums or through personal correspondence this project has been seeing some heavy weather but I have been back to the sketchboard and as we speak development is under way once more. And with renewed energy and enthusiasm! lets go to the first snippet…
Snippet #1: Araconda Prime

Shadow Empire is a game about Planetary Conquest. The Snippet here is showing a procedurally generated earth-like planet, albeit with quite smaller oceans and subsequently very large desert and steppe areas.
Hope you enjoyed the Snippet!
Thats all? Yes. Its a snippet :) It probably also raises more questions than it answers, but thats hard to avoid at this stage of development. Will post more in the coming weeks.
Best wishes,
Vic

Hi Vic,
Will Shadow Empire generate a new map each game?
Yes sir. I am designing to combine the strongest gameplay points of ATG and DC and add a solid dose of science and thematics on top of them.
Are you still planning on one unit per hex? If so will it be possible to change the composition of the unit by adding and removing weapon components similar to a German Kampfgruppe during the game?
Hi Chris,
Nope I changed the design radically towards higher complexity and more hardcore audience. Stacking is back.
Best wishes,
Vic
I notice the water has border outlines. Are you planning on having naval units?
Thanks for the updates.
Good to read some word on the status of this game. Especially pleased to see the design focus change to higher complexity and with stacking back in the mix. Look forward to more updates.
Hi Chris,
Very probably navy and air will be abstracted for a more streamlined experience and better AI performance. Hence also the naval zones.
Best wishes,
Vic
Re air and naval zones: This sounds like a good design decision. I’m currently learning/playing Hearts of Iron IV and it uses air and naval zones as well.
Will it have an improved modern UI with menus and a toolbar? It makes it easier to navigate and learn a game if it has a similar interface to other applications. Game designers tend to create their own unique interface making it difficult to learn a new game.
Hi Chris,
It will be similar to the DC engine, but I am planning a big list of UI improvements to accomplish exactly what you are hinting at.
Best wishes,
Vic
